Well, talk about eclectic (were we doing that or was I just imagining it?) - I came across something whilst genuinely looking for a knitting pattern. Its Stitchy McYarnpants amazing Museum of Kitschy Stitches (A Gallery of Notorious Knits). You just have to visit this site for its serious reflections on knitting pattern photos of the past. Oh, did I say serious? That's not truthful at all....it's more like this really...
